Vision and Hearing Screening
Vision and Hearing Screening
The California Department of Education requires Mandatory Vision and Hearing Screening of all students in Kindergarten, 2nd, 5th, 8th and 10th grades. Because vision and hearing greatly impacts a student’s ability to learn, the State of California requires these screenings to ensure that every student is able to fully access his/her education. We will be performing Mandated Vision and Hearing screening during the month of May. If your child receives routine vision and hearing screenings from a medical provider and you do not want your child to participate in the Mandated Vision and Hearing Screening, please fill out the opt out form and attach a copy of your child’s hearing and vision results performed by a licensed healthcare provider. Please return completed form and copy of results to the Health Office before screening begins.
Lockdown Drills
Dear families,
In an effort to continuously keep Sycamore Academy as safe as possible. March 14th 2023 we held a lockdown drill. Please know this drill was completely precautionary and an opportunity to practice keeping our students safe in the event of an emergency. We hold drills including earthquake drills and fire drills once a month every school year. We regularly review our procedures to help ensure we are providing the safest building we can for our students and staff. At times, these drills are run in conjunction with our local emergency response teams, this helps ensure law enforcement and emergency responders are familiar with our buildings and procedures in the event of a real emergency and has helped us build great relationships with these teams. These drills are often announced to our staff so they are not alarmed when they are called. Our employees make it clear to everyone in our building that it is only a drill to ease any possible concerns. These drills provide us with useful information in how we design our School Safety Plans. If you have any questions about drills or school safety, please feel free to contact us.
Kindly,
Laura Kerns LVN
